We — U4Heroes Foundation — are launching the Support Service School: a pilot training project for teams building or developing support services in units of the Armed Forces of Ukraine.
Why This Matters
Since August 2024, under Resolution No. 948 of the Cabinet of Ministers of Ukraine, establishing a support service has been mandatory for every military unit. In practice, however, many of these services either don’t function or operate only partially — lacking staff, standards, and methodological support. According to research by the NGO Pryncyp, 75% of support-service specialists had to build their own knowledge base from scratch just to do their jobs.
At the same time, Ukraine already has teams that have proven this model works — Yangoly (“Angels”), Azov.Care (1st Corps of the National Guard “Azov”), and the support service of Tymur’s unit (Defense Intelligence of Ukraine). For years, they’ve built up their practices alongside the wounded, and the families of the fallen and missing. Now that experience can be systematized and passed on to other units.
What We’re Doing
The Support Service School is a 12-day in-person program for teams of up to 5 people: a service lead, case manager, psychologist, medic, and a command representative. Nine modules cover the full cycle of a service’s work — from building the team to supporting the wounded, the families of the fallen and missing, and former prisoners of war.
Participants gain more than knowledge — they get the resources to act: document templates, access to the Standard of Care (a methodological resource developed and field-tested by practitioners), and two consecutive grants (UAH 150,000 and UAH 500,000) to launch and grow a service in their unit. Participation is free for both participants and their brigades.
The first cohort of the School will run August 17–29, 2026, in Kyiv. After completing the program, teams join a community of practitioners — with mentorship, peer exchange, and ongoing support.
